Reflection - Week 2

Date:   20/10/17 - Week 2

The Task 1 - Creating five Classroom Rules (specifically for IT Class)
The rules were to be clear and specific.

Were grouped off according to numbers and were given manila and markers.
I was in a group with Lesroy, Chellomane, Kayrecer and Michele.

Our discussion was focused on how we could create five rules that could help us to enjoy and make the most of our course / class experience while at the same time, adhere to the expectations of our Lecturer (especially as it pertains to class conduct and learning).
Eventually ... within a few minutes, we proudly had five rules presented on our coloured manila... YAY!!!
To 'jazz' it up a little, we decided to add some pictures to it... I volunteered to take the manila home to paste some on.  The others, if possible, would bring some pictures to next class and paste on.
Each group shared the rules that they created and our Lecturer advised us (along with the help of our classmates) as to whether or not the rules were appropriate (specific, clear, etc.)
We enjoyed hearing each other's rules.
The only challenge I remember us having is ensuring that our rules were sufficiently specific, clear and of course ... fun.😌
However, this was only brief, as we cooperated in putting our ideas and words together and voila... our rules were created.
Unfortunately, I do not have a copy of them... the manila was submitted to our Lecturer.😏
*** I know that when I am preparing rules for my classroom, specific and clear will definitely be two key words that I will use to guide me... also the involvement of my students in creating them.

Later on in class, we discussed the definition and importance of some key terms, such as Netiquette, emails, internet, network.
Emails - a mode of electronically communicating via the internet.
Netiquette - expected codes of conduct or behaviour in relation to internet use.... especially when emailing.

As a class, we discussed several netiquette ... such as having an email signature, the spelling and tone of messages especially emails, greetings / subject and salutations of emails, acknowledging receipt of a message / email.
We went through the process of creating an email signature in Google Mail.
  1. Click on Settings
  2. Scroll down to 'Signature'
  3. Select 'signature'
  4. Type in your desired signature (for e.g your name, contact number (s), address, a favourite quote)
  5. Select the box which says "insert this signature before......"
  6. Scroll down and click on 'save changes'
Only challenge was that I had not yet created my new gmail account (I did not want to use my current one because I couldn't remember the password at the time and I've been meaning to change it for a while now).
So, as a result, I now know how to create an email signature in Gmail... and can show or instruct someone else how to also.
However, I was able to mentally follow and understand and took notes ... then in my spare time, created a new gmail account and was able to finally go through the step. I have not yet created my signature because I'm still decided what I would like for it to be...😉

This lesson has given me knowledge that can be used as resource in the event I become an IT teacher or when giving a Netiquette / IT / Technology Appreciation lesson... just for information purposes.

Are you a digital native or a digital immigrant?
This was the topic of our next class discussion...
Judging ourselves in relation to our personal interaction with technology, we had to personally decide if we were digital immigrants or digital natives give one reason for our response and a personal experience with technology.
We shared our responses with each other during class.
Some of us were one of both or digital immigrants in process of becoming digital natives... hopefully by the end of the course.
Ohhhh...by the way... I'm a digital immigrant in process of becoming a digital native.
